he Bride – A Therapeutic Catwalk by Simon de Boer (aka Bakker Baard) makes its annual appearance in Amsterdam from 20 to 22 July and this time around, its temporary home will be the Machinegebouw on the Westergasterrein.
See The Bride for free
Constructed of 300 kilos of used wedding dresses, the enormous artwork can be visited for free during these three days. The Bride is displayed at a different spot each year - previous locations include the Oude Kerk and Nieuwe Kerk.
Amsterdam’s Machinegebouw is an apt location for the exhibition: it’s a favourite wedding location among Amsterdammers and De Boer is based at the Westergasfabriek.
Unique work
The work is certainly unique: alongside the hundreds of dresses, it also features an 80-metre-long train and patchwork totalling an impressive 80 metres! The exhibition takes the form of a catwalk show, inviting visitors to watch videos of anonymous brides dancing while listening to a choral soundtrack.
Bakker Baard
Artist Simon de Boer is well-known in Amsterdam as Bakker Baard, a baker of the French desert clafoutis. De Boer opened his clafoutis restaurant Bouillon Baard in 2011 and also home delivers his creations.

The Bride – A Therapeutic Catwalk will be on display at the Machinegebouw on the Westergasfabriek from 20 to 22 July. Open from 11:00 to 20:00 with a guided tour at 15:00 on Sunday, 22 July. Entry is free and the exhibition catalogue costs 7.50 euros
